'Aseré, que bolá' - Carlota Barrera
London Menswear Fashion Week SS23

Research and early development for Carlota Barrera’s SS23 collection Aseré, que bolá, presented at London Menswear Fashion Week. The work focused on building a cultural and visual framework around Cuban identity, masculinity and everyday elegance. This included sourcing photography, film, archival material, music and testimonies, then organising them into structured moodboards and narrative threads to inform silhouettes, textures, colour palettes and overall conceptual direction.

Print Development
Development of the collection’s key print, inspired by the ocean’s role in Cuban identity and its dual associations with beauty and environmental damage. The print used cyanotype-inspired imagery created from seaweed and plastic waste, and was applied across several looks. One version featured the full digital pattern, while another isolated seaweed elements for manual application, allowing the concept to adapt across garments while remaining visually cohesive.
